
Alaska Highway. Company E and H&S. Born: 31 March 1919, Freeport, NY. Died: 12 March 2009, Wheat Ridge, Jefferson, CO. Enlisted: 2 August 1941, New York. He served in the Army in Yukon, Canada, Britain and France.
Education: Graduated from Dartmouth College in 1941 with BS degree in geology. From 1946 to 1955 he earned a masters and doctorate degree from the University of Michigan and worked for the U.S. Geological Survey.
He was the discoverer of molybdenum deposits in Colorado and earned the title of chief geologist for Climax Molybdenum Company. He led a team of geologists in his department that clarified the geology at Climax Mine. They discovered two ore bodies near Berthod Pass.
In 1969, he became the President of Mine Finders and conducted mineral explorations in western North America. In 1976 he worked as a consultant in many countries with both large and small mining companies. He authored many articles, received many awards and was inducted in the National Mining Hall of Fame, but his lifelong passion was sailing.
His father was Earl Stewart Wallace (1892-1921) and his mother was Marjorie Boynton Smith (1894-1992). He married Alice Isabella Dodge on 7 September 1946 in Northfield, Washington, Vermont.
