Harry was with the Corps of Engineers, Camp Livingston as a First Sergeant. He arrived at Camp Livingston during the first week of the Louisiana-Texas Maneuvers. He attended the first Officer Candidate School at Livingston and then was assigned to the newly formed 93rd Engineer (GS) Regiment. He was 2nd Lt with H&S Company and then was assigned to Company C. He was promoted to 1LT in July of 1942 and succeeded Capt Boyd as Company C Commander on Oct 1942.
Capt Traback with the 93rd arrived at Chilkoot Barracks, Haines, AK on 3 January 1943. He was the 2nd BN Exec Officer from 3 Jan 1943 to 20 January 1943 and departed from Chilkoot Barracks for SPOE as Liaison Officer for the 93rd Engr on 11 Feb 1943.
He rejoined the unit at Ft. Randall, Cold Bay, AK on 28 April 1943. He was assigned as Regimental Special Services Officer with additional duty as Regimental Motor Officer from 29 April 1943 to 12 December 1943. H&S Company Commander from 13 December to date of departure of this unit from Ft. Randall.
He was promoted to Captain on 18 September 1943. He also was nominated to attend Engineer Field Officers School at Ft. Belvoir, VA.
