Enlisted Aug 1941. On 23-25 June 2014 Chris McClure visited and interviewed Mortimer Squires and Aline, age 94 and 93 respectively in Baton Rouge, LA.
After the Highway he arrived at Chilkoot Barracks, Haines, AK on 25 December 1942. He was Company A Commander from 1 January 1943 to 30 May 1943. He arrived at Ft. Randall, Cold Bay, AK on 27 February 1943. Company C platoon commander from 31 May 1943 to 13 October 1943. Relieved from assignment with 93rd Engineers and assigned to 18th Engineers at Shemya, Alaska on 15 October 1943.
He loved “Yukon Shrimp” – Vienna Sausage. He lived in Morgan City near New Orleans. When Katrina hit, he and his wife lost everything.
