Meyer Schneider was a graduate of University of Georgia Medical School with a specialty in obstetrics.
First Lt. Schneider was assigned to the H&S Company of the segregated 97th Engineer Regiment. They landed in Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. Three feet of snow covered the ground. The 97th Engineers built the northern section of the Alaska Highway.
He was a 1st Lt with H&S Company from April 1942 to September 1942 when he was re-assigned to the Whitehorse Hospital in Yukon, Canada. He was promoted to Captain in January of 1943.
His father was Jacob Schneider (1879-1962) and his mother was Harriet Mendelson Schneider (1888-1957). His wife was Edith Adele Meddin (1920-2009).
