Alaska Highway. Commander of H&S Company and in July was assigned to First BN Hqt. A veteran of two wars, WW2 and Korea.

He enlisted on 29 March 1941 in the Army Air Corps and discharged on 12 December 1945. He was with ROTC at Carnegie Institute of Technology and graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. His first job was with Glenn L. Martin Company of Baltimore, MD.
In 1942, Lt. Sander was promoted to Captain and was assigned with the segregated 97th Engineer Regiment at Eglin Field, Florida. He with the 97th when they landed at Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. Three feet of snow covered the ground. The 97th built the northern section of the Alaska Highway.
Clarence lived in Washington D.C., retired from the Air Force, and in 1962 he moved to Florida.
His father was Clarence Howard Sander, a proprietor of a grocery (1886-1966). His mother was Helen Lydia Goodwin, a housekeeper (?-1965) His married Virginia M. George on 2 February 1935 and they had three children, James H. Orlando, Donna Yvonne Buckhout and Evelyn Virginia Barnhart.
