Education: Davie County grammar school. Civilian occupation: farm laborer, employed as bottle washer at Rowan County Dairies and worked at Fiber Industries. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church at East Spencer, NC. He served on the board of deacons and trustees and was the church’s custodian.
Robert married Essie Simpson on 21 September 1949. Essie earned extra money baking cakes for individual parties. She was employed at Isenhour Brick and Tile and worked in the textile mills. She eventually went back to school and became a licensed Nurses Aide and worked in a nursing home.
His father was Eldo Rucker, a tenant farmer and his mother was Leeo Baker.
