Nickname “Dud”. He attended school in Nevada and received a degree in Mining Engineering in 1941. In 1942 he was commissioned by the US Army and was assigned to the 93rd Engineer Motor Pool. He worked with Lt. Timberlake.
Dud loved to work with his hands. At age 14, he obtained parts from a nearby wrecking yard and rebuilt a Model T Ford for his first car. At the same junk yard he found parts to manufacture his mother’s first washing machine. Later, while working on oil projects as an engineer, Dud built a boat.
In 1950, he met Virginia Lee Horrell on a blind date and after four more dates he popped the question. They were married on 23 September 1950. The married couple followed Dud’s career with United Geophysical which took him to North Dakota and Texas. They had six children.
Prior to retirement in 1978, he and Virginia purchased Cross Creek Ranch in California. He wanted to provide an open space and ranch life style for his children and grandchildren.
