Education: college one year. Civilian occupation: Employed at Hadley Hardware Store. His father was Augustus Baxter Rives employed by J.C. Steele and Sons for over 50 years. He died 3 February 1960. His mother was Eloise Patterson who married his father on 24 May 1904.
John married Violet Louise Stuckey on 6 August 1945 in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Lieutenant Rives worked on the Alaska Highway and in 1943 followed the 95th Engineers to the European Theatre of Operations. His service spanned France, Czechoslovakia and Germany.
