Education: University of Washington. Civilian occupation: Civil Engineer and in the 1940 census he was listed as an Ironworker apprentice for building construction.
The 97th Engineers arrived in Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. Two to three feet of snow covered the ground. They built the northern section of the Alaska Highway. Lt. Mondt arrived to the Highway in December 1942. He was assigned to Company C and remained with them until July 1943.
His father was Lloyd R. Mondt, a truck driver and mechanic (1895-1977). His mother was Teresa K. Franz (1898-1981). He married Geraldine P. Neher (1923-1992) on 17 October 1943. He had two sisters, Myrtle Marie and Mary Louise.
