Civilian occupation: In 1930 Census he is listed as a Meter Engineer for Alabama Water Company. In 1940 Census he was a HVAC Engineer in New Orleans and the following year he was employed by Fairbanks, Morse and Company as a Sales Engineer. This company manufactures and services engines.
Lt. McLaren arrived on the Alaska Highway in July 1942 Joining the 97th segregated Engineers. The 97th had arrived on 29 April 1942 and began building the northern section of the Alaska Highway.
Lt. McLaren was with Company F from July 1942 to February 1943 when his next assignment was a Platoon Leader for Company E. The 93rd left the Alaska Highway in July of 1943 for their next assignment in the Philipines.
He married Wanna Mae Partridge McLaren (1906-1988) on 6 July 1929 in Opelika, Lee, AL and they were divorced in March of 1956. His mother was Mary Alice Hardwick McLaren (1880-1941/43) and his father was William W. McLaren, a railroad engineer (1877-1941).
He had a brother, Thomas McLaren (1901-1967) and a sister Margaret McLaren (1893-1970).
