Education: three years high school. Civilian occupation: Caddy at Florida golf clubs. His father was Festus Maxwell and his mother, a laundress was Effie Mae Williams. He married Christine Brown on 26 February 1946 in Duval, FL.
Tech 5 Maxwell was with a medical detachment assigned to the segregated 97th Engineers. They arrived in Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. The 97th Engineers built the northern section of the Alaska Highway. Both returned to Camp Sutton, NC September 1943. Their next assignment was Milne Bay, New Guinea, Philippines.
