Alaska Highway. Company E.
Born: 7 August 1914, Mobile, AL. Died: 26 October 1999 Vero Beach, FL. Enlistment and discharge dates are unknown. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute with a degree in civil engineering.
In April of 1942, he was a 2Lt. with Company E of the segregated 97th Engineer Regiment. They landed in Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. Three feet of snow covered the ground. The 97th Engineers built the northern section of the Alaska Highway.
Second Lt. Lytz served as a platoon leader with Company E from April 1942 to July 1943. He was promoted to 1st Lt. in May 1943.
After the Army, he moved to Florida in 1945. He was a Director for a term of one year for the City Special Improvement Authority. He was employed by Gate City Industries, Crosby Builders Supply and in 1980 started Lyte Construction Company.
His parents were Lucian C. Lytz, Sr and Annie M. Scott. He married Emily Louise Parker (1914-2003) on 11 March 1943, Broward, Florida and they had a daughter, Sherry.
