Born: 2 December 1914, Bokchito, Bryan, Oklahoma. Died: 1 February 2003, Ft. Belvoir, Fairfax, VA. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
Enlisted: 14 June 1938 and released 31 Dec 1966. He served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam, specialized in engineering and logistics. His highest rank was Colonel.
He was the Logistic officer and Regimental Executive officer for the 93rd Engineer Regiment. The 93rd Engineers built the middle section of the Alaska Highway, over 250 miles. He followed the 93rd Engineers to Unmak in the Aleutians Island, Alaska. At Unmak, he commanded the second battalion.
Later he served in the China, Burma, India theatre. He was District Engineer from 1960 to 1963 serving overseas in Germany and Korea and in the states.
In 1934 he graduated from East Central State Teachers College in Oklahoma and continued his education at West Point Military Academy, graduating in June 1938 with an engineering degree. While serving in the military, he completed a Masters Degree in Engineering from University of California at Berkeley and a second Masters Degree in logistics from Harvard University.
In 1968, he retired from the military and as a civilian he was employed as a disaster assessor for the Federal Emergency Management Agency until 1983.
His father was James Wall Lewis (1886-1967) and his mother was Jessie O. Linn (1884-1918). James married Orma Miriam Hilton Miller on 4 December 1939 in Denver, Colorado. She passed on 17 November 2000.
