

African American, Company A, Alaska Highway. Born: 5 August 1920, New Orleans, LA. Died: Living. Enlisted: 12 April 1941, Jacksonville Army Air Field, FLA. Discharged 22 November 1945. Education: grammar school. Civil Occupation: general farms.
After the Highway he was transferred to the Aleutians. He was 19 when he enlisted. His Draft Card lists his mother, Alphonsine and his father, Larry. They lived at Klotzville, Assumption, LA.
In 1940 census Leonard, his father, and his brother John and sister Mary worked on a Sugar Cane Plantation. In the 1930 census his father worked as a washer in a garage. His mother was a wash woman for a private home.
He wrote letters for his Army buddies (tent-mates). Leonard had 16 brothers and 4 sisters. He had a cousin, Henry B. Lawson, in Company C of the 93rd Engineers.
