
Alaska Highway. Medical Corps. Born: 17 August 1909, Richmond, VA. Died: 30 March 2002, Richmond, VA. He was in command of the medical officers with the segregated 95th Engineer (GS) Regiment stationed in British Columbia and Yukon, Canada. They built the southern sector of the Alaska Highway.
He graduated from the Medical College of Virginia, was a member of ROTC and retired from the reserves in August 1968. The 1940 census records Dr. LaFratta had a private practice and he was chief of Kecoughtan’s department of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
He was an avid amateur photographer winning prizes and honorable mentions in several contests. His father was Joseph LaFratta (1880-1969), born in Virginia and proprietor of a Barber Shop. His mother was Rose Lucia Del Grande (1884-1974). His grandparents were born in Italy. Carl married Ruth Palmer (1906-1989) on 26 December 1941 in Washington, DC.
