Alaska Highway, Company A Commander. Born: 20 January 1911, Missouri. Died: April 1985, Oregon. Married Marcelline Hatch, of Missouri, on 21 December 1935.
His father was Lenard Ellwood Holtzapple 1863-1937 and his mother was Francis N. Reynolds born 1867. They were married in 1885. Frank had four brothers and five sisters.
He attended the University of Kansas and was employed as an Engineer in oil production. As Company A commander, he and his men were the advance to Skagway, Alaska and the advance for clearing the pioneer road in Yukon. He and Lt. Squires roomed together at Chilkoot Barracks. Lt. Squires remembered Frank’s contagious laugh.
He stayed at Chilkoot Barracks from Dec 25, 1942 to 27 Feb 1943 when he arrived at Ft. Randall (Cold Bay), Alaska. He was relieved from assignment with the 93rd Engineers and left on April 28, 1943 for his new assignment with the 349th Engineers (GS) on Adak, AK (Aleutians).
