Apr 19, 1942 The Arizona Daily Star reported James Henry Jr graduated Apr 15 from the Engineer School at Ft. Belvoir, VA in the third engineer officer candidate class. He was appointed 2nd Lt in the US Army Corps of Engineers.
On Sep 22, 1945 James B. Henry reported by the Arizona Daily Star, …has been promoted to Captain. Captain Henry graduated from the University of Arizona in 1939 and then studied law for two years before enlisting in July, 1941. He was assigned to the Alcan Highway and moved on to the Aleutians and finally assigned to India where he worked on the Ledo Road.
On Dec 22, 1945 Tucson Daily Citizen reported, James B. Henry married Eleanor Nixon McNeill. Her brother Sgt. David Nixon of the USMC gave her away. They will live in Arizona until early the next fall when they will go to Cambridge, Mass. Mr. Henry plans to finish his law degree at Harvard University.
His father, Colonel James B. Henry, Sr., was born in 1877 and died on Christmas eve in 1961. His obituary reported that he was a great-nephew of President James Buchanan. In 1896 he graduated from the United States Naval Academy. He served in the Spanish-American War and was an officer in the US Cavalry during the Moro campaign in the Phillipines.
His mother, Mary C. McClaughry Henry, was born 29 March 1878 in Illinois and died 23 August 1948 in Tucson, Arizona. She married James B. Henry, Sr on 7 June 1904 in Leavenworth, Kansas.
