Joseph entered Loyola University of Chicago, IL from St. John Kanty Prep School, Rochester, NY. He graduated in 1935 with a medical degree in dentistry.
In the 31 May 1941 issue of The Bulletin (Camp Blanding Station Hospital newsletter), Lt. Dziolczyk is listed as arriving at Camp Blanding, FL. He was attached to the Dental Service at the Station Hospital until the 97th Battalion was activated. In the 21 June 1941 issue, it was written that he was released from the Station Hospital Dental Service to report to the 97the Engineer Battalion on 17 June 1941.
First Lt. Dziolczyk was with H&S Company in the segregated 97th Engineer Regiment. They landed at Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. Three feet of snow covered the ground. The 97th Engineers built the northern section of the Alaska Highway.
Lt. Dziolczyk was with the H&S Company from April 1942 to December 1942 and was promoted to Captain in September 1942. He was transferred to Barnes General Hospital in Vancouver, WA in December 1942.
His father was Frank Dziolczyk, an optical lens polisher, born in Poland. His mother was Anna Wonsik, born in Poland. Joseph married Bernice Kowalcayk on 14 September 1933 in Cook County, IL.
