Enlisted: 1 September 1942, Ft. Douglas, Utah and discharged 2 February 1945. Education: Rush Medical College.
The segregated 97th Regiment arrived at Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. Three feet of snow covered the ground. The 97th built the northern section of the Alaska Highway. Capt DeVries arrived to the Highway in December 1942 and was assigned to H&S Company.
His father was Jurrien DeVries (1857-1927), a farmer, and his mother was Aljedina Kuyper (1863-1907). Both were born in Holland. He married Lelia M. Parks (1901-1975).
