Born: 8 June 1914, Chattanooga, TN. Died: 30 October 1990, TN. Buried: Mt. Olivet Cemetery, East Ridge, TN.
Enlisted: 28 February 1942 and Discharged 2 February 1946. Education: College. Civilian occupation: engineer for WPA. His father was Roy C. Crumbliss (1882-1960) who worked as a cashier for a medicine company. His mother was Margaret V. McFarland Crumbliss.
Second Lt. Crumbliss was with the segregated 97th Engineer Regiment. They landed at Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942 looking at three feet of snow covering the ground. The 97th built the northern section of the Alaska Highway. He was a platoon leader with Company F from April 1942 – July 1943. In May of 1943 he was promoted to 1st Lt.
Roy, Jr. at age 26 married Winifred Louise Wheeler, age 24, on 16 June 1941 at a Roman Catholic Church in Blacksburg, VA.
