Born: 14 March 1920, Richmond, Henrico County, Virginia Died: 1 May 2010, Baltimore, Maryland. Enlisted: 15 August 1941, Richmond, VA. Discharged: 5 December 1945.
Education: four years high school. Civilian Occupation: Miles Cleaning Company [laundry/cleaners]. John stated that he joined the army to escape segregationist life in Virginia and wanted to save money to go to college.
His father was John Alexander Bollin Sr (1901-1978) and his mother was Elizabeth Bollin (1900-?). He married Earlyne “Earlene” June Reeves (1924-1993) on 17 May 1949 in New York.
He wrote letters for many black soldiers in his company that did not know how to read or write. He was assigned to operate and maintain heavy equipment on the Highway.
He was the Ping Pong Champion among black troops while stationed in the Aleutians, AK.
