Education: four years college, graduate of Virginia State University in mathematics and science. He was a math and science teacher for the Caroline County School Board.
His father was John Robert Beverly and his mother was Claudia Merlin Hill. Both were public school teachers. He married Bessie Mae Johnson (1920-1967), a teacher, on 25 December 1945 in Louisa County, VA.
