African American. Alaska Highway. Medical Detachment. Born: 19 May 1915, Madison, Wisconsin. Died: 6 March 1995, Madison, Wisconsin. Enlisted: 11 April 1941, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and discharged 20 August 1945.
Education: 4 years at Madison West High School. He also attended University of Wisconsin in Madison. Civilian occupation: mechanic, repairman, motor vehicles. After the war he worked at a VA Hospital Research Lab as a lab technician for 30 years.
His father was Harry D. Allison, employed as a janitor in an apartment building and at a bank, 1895-1980. His mother was Myra Denning Allison, a laundress, 1899-1973. His spouse was Margaret Marie McKenzie Allison 1928-2010.
Sgt. Allison was with a Medical Detachment assigned to the segregated 97th Engineers. They arrive in Valdez, Alaska on 29 April 1942. The 97th Engineers built the northern section of the Alaska Highway. Both returned to Camp Sutton, NC September 1943 and their next assignment was Milne Bay, New Guinea, Philippines.
